Nextel DirectConnect allows you to walkie-talkie any other Nextel
user who has given you their private DirectConnect number. (This is
different than their phone number.) You can program the Blackberry
to notify you (or not) in different ways (buzz, chip, silent) based on
whether the phone is in the holster, whether the incoming message
is "Level One" (which you can define), and based on which custom mode
you have setup.
In March 2005, I switched from
Nextel to Verizon for
these reasons.
