Once you try using your computer with two monitors, you will never go back. You don't realize how much time you waste flipping windows and forgetting things until you have things better laid out.
If your PC does not yet support dual digital DVI output, you will need to buy a graphics card for this. It should cost about $107. Search pricewatch video cards for NVIDIA Dual DVI for example. I got an ASUS V9520 VS with NVIDIA from eXcaliberPC. Update: the card I got required an "AGP" size slot in my PC, which my Dell does not have. The eXcaliberPC salesperson who dealt with me never told me this and they said they will not refund my purchase! So now I have to go through the hassle of complaining to my credit card company, uggh. I'm now on the market for a new card, stay tuned...
Ideally you'd have two flat panel LCD monitors so you can have both digital, no conversion back and forth. I got two 17" Hitachi CML175B monitors for $429 each and free shipping at monitorsdirect.
Be sure to setup your desktop driver as two separate displays, not as one stretched display. You will still be able to drag windows to your second monitor, but will have the advantage of all of your task bar items staying on one monitor, and your popup windows not spanning monitors.
Update 17nov05: my friend Joe R. points me at Digital Tigers.
