Dear Friends,

On August 7th and 8th, I will be riding my bicycle 162 miles in the Pan Mass Challenge to raise money to fight cancer. This is the first time I have ever done an event like this, and I am asking you to sponsor me with as generous a contribution as you can afford.

I am doing this event in memory of my mother Ann Holmes Dugan English who passed away from colon cancer in 2001, and also as a show of support to family member Mary Burke of Holbrook, Mass.

The PMC is the largest fundraising event for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana Farber Cancer Center. It fuels lifesaving research into cancer treatment. Last year, the PMC group of 4,000 riders raised over 12 million dollars in this two-day event!

I understand that this year it might be tough for you to make a big contribution but I am asking you to be generous nonetheless. Our efforts to raise money for life-saving research is more important now, especially as new treatments are coming to market. I have friends and family members benefiting from these therapies today. I'm sure some of your loved ones are fighting their own battles with cancer too. My ride is a show of support for their struggle and a statement of hope in the face of their life threatening illness.

Your contribution will help the PMC donate over $15 million dollars to the Jimmy Fund in one event, which funds half of the Jimmy Fund's total contribution to the Dana Farber Cancer Center. Over 90% of the funds donated go directly to cancer research.
