Here are things I want added or fixed in gmail:
- Filter list objects so I can create/manage my own "lists"
such as bad phrases, whitelist or friends, etc. This would allow me to
then create simple rules vs. making me create a damn rule for every
phrase or sender!
- More from link next to an email header so I can click it
and instantly see more email from this sender.
- Definite spam (e.g., phishing emails which claim to be
from Paypal but which Google knows are not) should be deleted,
not put into my spam folder! This is important, since gmail
unfortunately has started to mark real email as spam sometimes, thus I
now have to plow through my damn spam folder every day. :(
- Not spam. When I select something from my spam folder
and click "Not spam", allow me to alert sender that their email
had been mistakenly marked as spam, with pointer to a Google
maintained document which has info about how legitimate users
can setup their email to not be marked as spam. E.g., use an
email provider with some type of
sender identification. I know this
could be considered "dangerous" as it is a tip to spammers on
how to better avoid being classified as spam but it is more
important to eliminate miscategorizations of spam!
- Super friends. Allow me to auto-whitelist email from
contacts of my contacts.
- Open sender identification protocols to allow more
server whitelisting. See
more details.
- Silent spam. I hate spam so much that I don't like seeing
the "spam" folder name change to bold each time I have spam.
- Gmail advertisement filtering so I could maintain a list
of keywords to block certain advertisements. (Yes, do not allow
people to use this to block all ads.)
- Annotate an email message so I can remember why I saved it
etc.
- MIME attachments usually appear as gobbledegook.
Update 02oct05: Google
acknowledges
this problem.
